When your traditional monofilament fishing line gets caught in tree branches, stuck in the mud, or lost in the water, it can stay there for more than 500 years! Studies are coming out on a regular basis about the long-term and far-reaching impacts of monofilament lines on our environment. It has been found in the stomachs and or entangled around all types of aquatic birds and animals, from sea turtles to individual species of coral. Environmentalist and anglers promoting fishing stewardship have long been trying to address this problem with recycling programs and education.
Bioline Biofilament fishing line on the the other hand, completely biodegrades in the environment in as little as 5 years. This along with it's excellent knot strenght, UV and abrasion resistance, and casting distance make it an ideal replacement for monofilament and other synthetic fishing lines. At the time of writing, Bioline comes in 4, 6, 8 10, and 12 LB test.
Here at Green Tackle monofilament fishing line pollution is among our primary concerns. That is why we are proud and excited to sell--and use--Bioline fishing line. I personally use the 4LB and 6LB Bioline for trout fishing and have hardly noticed a difference at all.
Remember, never throw away your old monofilament fishing line. Many sports and outdoors retailers have monofilament fishing line recycling bins and many states have monofilament fishing line recycling programs. Check with your local Fish and Wildlife department.
